2024 Paris Olympics day 14
Paris Olympics news:
Continuing our tour of Paris, we arrive at the Grand Palais des Champs Elysées. Located between the Seine river and the Champs Elysées, it was built in the late 19th century for the 1900 World's Fair and dedicated “by the French Republic to the glory of French art.” The imposing building combines classical stonework, including columns and statues, with intricate Art Nouveau style ironwork. It is topped by the largest glass roof in Europe, a work of art on its own. Among many
other expositions, the Grand Palais was home to the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925 that featured the new Art Deco style and where the term was first coined.
For the 2024 Olympics, the site was chosen for the fencing and the Taekwondo competitions. Fencing is now over with the US winning two gold medals and one silver! Taekwondo will start today and will run through Saturday.
The US is still leading in the number of medals, followed by China and France.
Also on the schedule today for the US team are golf, diving, sport climbing, athletics, canoe sprint, wrestling, sailing, skateboarding, cycling track, diving, weightlifting, volleyball, water polo, artistic swimming, basketball, beach volleyball, and marathon swimming.
To watch on TV, tune in to NBC or stream on Peacock and other platforms. France is 6 hours ahead of US Eastern time and 9 hours ahead of US Pacific time.
