2024 Paris Olympics day 16
Paris Olympics news:
The Grand Palais, which we referenced a couple days ago, has been closed since 2021 in preparation for the Olympics. To host the non-Olympics events that would normally take place there, the city of Paris built a temporary facility that is known as the Grand Palais Ephémère or Ephemeral Grand Palais. The building is located on the Champs de Mars, the large park in front of the Eiffel Tower. In Parisian fashion, the temporary building could not be a quick
pre-fab but had to fit in with its impressive surroundings. The Grand Palais Ephémère, known as the Arena Champs de Mars in the context of the Olympics, is 100,000 square feet and built mainly of wood and other sustainable materials.
The Arena Champs de Mars is the venue for judo and wrestling as well as Paralympics judo and wheelchair rugby. Wheelchair rugby and para-judo are now over. Judo has ended with Japan winning the bulk of the medals, followed by France. Wrestling is ongoing with the last competition on Sunday.
Also on the schedule today for the US team are taekwondo, diving, athletics, sport climbing, canoe sprint, wrestling, water polo, volleyball, break-dancing, basketball, cycling track, artistic swimming, and weightlifting.
To watch on TV, tune in to NBC or stream on Peacock and other platforms. France is 6 hours ahead of US Eastern time and 9 hours ahead of US Pacific time.
